When Dr. Hossam Omar the founder and Chairman of Middle East Chemicals (MEC), United Company of Pharmacists (UCP), and United Company for Trading & Distribution (UCTD) first started his private business, pharmacists in Egypt were suffering due to poor supply. The market dynamics at that time was driven by each pharmaceutical company delivering the needs of the pharmacies around the country from their individual factories located in Cairo and Alexandria, therefore consequently pharmacy outlets had to wait for more than one month to receive their orders and even more time especially in the rural areas. Moreover, for pickup they had to call in person the state-owned pharmaceutical distribution centres and wait in long queues for their turn to collect their needs if available by their turn.
